Last month, Rebecca was selected out of the UK’s top hairdressers to work at one of the biggest fashion events in the world, London Fashion Week.
Our adventure went by in a cloud of hairspray, faster than you can say beauty inspiration, and the fast-paced environment saw our head-stylist work on six shows, each which stunned the runway with a completely different style and approach to fashion design and complimentary hair and beauty.
Rebecca had the opportunity to help make designers’ visions come to life including female Brit designer Billie Jacobina, who has received a coveted ‘One to Watch’ award for up and coming designers, and Azzalia a luxury Emirate brand specialising in gowns and occasion wear.
From classic to crimped we made sure to take notes on the hairstyle must-haves, along with lots of pictures, so we could share the trends and techniques from the country’s ultimate fashion show with you…
THE DESIGNER: Billie Jacobina
THE VIBE: Go wild with crazy, colourful accessories.
REBECCA SAYS: At first glance, you might think this look is unrealistic for day-to-day wear. And yes, there aren’t many people bold enough to use balloons and rollers as hair accessories! But we can still draw inspiration from the show. I take from it to have fun, experiment and don’t be afraid to let your individuality shine. Playing with colour doesn’t need to be permanent. Use colourful accessories or, as an alternative, we’ve just had a delivery of Label M’s lightweight highlighting toner sprays to the salon. They’re amazing products which allow you to spray in and wash out fashionable colours like grey, blue and even red. Ask about them in the salon to learn more.
THE DESIGNER: Happy Andrada
THE VIBE: Top knots and braids.
REBECCA SAYS: I think of the top knot as the younger sister of the classic bun. A similar style but higher up on the head for a more modern look. Happy Andrada coupled the look with braids which adds a nice touch and some extra texture. To re-create a similar style, I would recommend pinning the braids up and around the bun for a more wearable look. We used dry shampoo, wax and sea salt spray on the hair first to give it extra volume and make it easier to style. Don’t think about it too much, the knot doesn’t need to be perfect to look good.
THE DESIGNER: Anissa Aida
THE VIBE: Carefully Crimped
REBECCA SAYS: This look can easily be created at home with a crimping iron or multi-way heat tool. Note that the crimping starts almost half way down the hair. It was also crimped in uneven sections, rather than in one straight block, so you might need to factor in some extra time to get the look right. We applied a volumising foam to the hair first and cushion brushed and dried it into the hair. After crimping you can finish the style off with a shine mist.
THE DESIGNER: Azzalea
THE VIBE: 50s inspired vintage rolls
REBECCA SAYS: This was one of my favourite designers to work with. She hails from Dubai, a destination I love to visit and the brand had a high-end, luxury feel. The styles I created for this show would be fantastic for one of my wedding clients, the victory rolls are a classic and beautiful look which never dates. To create your own vintage rolls take a section of hair a couple of inches wide, or use your fringe if you have one, and roll it around your fingers from the bottom up. Secure it in place with grips which match your hair colour and use hairspray to keep it in place.
London Fashion Week is ranked alongside New York, Paris and Milan as one of the ‘big four’ fashion events. We make it our mission to continue to stay ahead of trends and techniques to ensure the North-East of Scotland has access to the industry’s best and the event is just one way we ensure we keep or finger on the pulse.
